The state government felt that the public needed an orthodox university to expand the specialized academic contributions of the University of Agriculture. In 1991, the state government formed a 13-member steering committee to design for and obtain support for the university. The college began offering classes for the 1992/1993 school year in four colleges: Arts, Education, Sciences, and Social Science.
