Nokia recently announced the arrival of several new smartphones. One of these devices is the Nokia G20 and it is expected to be an upgrade on the G10. Nokia G20 Review
The Nokia G20, just like its predecessor the G10, is a low-budget smartphone. However, Nokia promises that the former is an upgrade on the latter. In this section, we take a close look at the features of the G20 to see if there is truly an upgrade or not.
Display and Design
Nokia is recognized for using minimalist yet attractive designs for its smartphones. One look at the Nokia G20 and you can tell that a lot of thought and effort went into the design of this device. The first thing that you will notice about this device is the rounded edges, they make it very attractive and unique.
To add to this, Nokia presents its customers with two different colors for this device. They are the glacier and night colors with the latter featuring in the G10 series as well. Another addition to the design of the Nokia G20 that is present in its predecessor is the splash protection. With this, your device is protected from rainwater and other splashing liquids.
What did Nokia put in the front of this device? It features a similar screen size to what is obtainable in the G10, a 6.52-inch display. In fact, the display is no different from what Nokia put in its predecessor as it also features the same resolution and display type. This is not a problem since the display of the G10 is quite captivating and gives you an all-immersive experience. As such, there was no real need for Nokia to upgrade the display of the G20.
Nokia also adds the fingerprint sensor to the G20. It places it in the same position, at the side, that it is in the G10. This adds to the unique design of this smartphone and also makes it easier for the user to reach the sensor.
Software and Hardware
The software and hardware of a smartphone are its two primary components. Without them, the device wouldn’t run and could be seen as useless. Nokia is always known to justice to its devices in this regard, just as it did with the G10. So is the Nokia G20 an upgrade on its predecessor?
First, Nokia upgrades the chipset of this device as it makes use of the MediaTek Helio G35. This is higher than the G25 present in its predecessor. The manufacturer also upgrades the CPU of this device. Even though it is an octa-core processor, it clocks at 2.3 GHz. This is also higher than what you have in the G10, 2.0 GHz. With both, you are assured that the device will run faster than its predecessor.
To add to the speed of this device, Nokia equips it with a PowerVR GPU. This oversees the graphics and gaming functions of the device to give the user a pleasant viewing experience. Also, you can rest assured that you can play games and run multiple apps simultaneously without the device hanging.
Cameras
A smartphone’s cameras are some of its most important features these days. The cameras help to create videos and photos that capture memories in time. Nokia didn’t do so well with the cameras of the G10. As such, it is expected that it will do better with the cameras on the G20.
Of course, Nokia didn’t disappoint as it gives a complete overhaul of the camera system of the device. Unlike its predecessor, the Nokia G20 features four cameras behind. The primary camera comes with 48 megapixels, far higher than what you have in the G10. It also features an ultra-wide camera of 5 megapixels and macro and depth cameras of 2 megapixels each.
In front, Nokia equips this device with an 8-megapixel selfie camera. While this isn’t so great, it is similar to what you have in most devices in the same class. Both cameras capture 1080p videos at 30fps. As such, you are assured of very clear videos.
Battery Life
Nokia equips the G20 with the same battery that it put in the G10. This device comes with a Li-Po 5050mAh battery. With this, you should have enough battery power to last more than a day.
