Epileptic power supply is a major problem in Nigeria and one of the ways Nigerians have been solving this challenge is by using alternate power sources.
One of these alternate sources is the use of solar panels. However, with the increased proliferation of solar panels, it is easy to find yourself buying the wrong type because you’re not exactly sure of what you need.
Before we delve into the prices of solar panels in Nigeria, here’s brief overview of what it entails to install a typical solar panels or modules in your home or office.
The components include a solar panel and a 12V battery rated at 200AH. This can charge panels that have power that range between 125W and 400W panel to full capacity.
When using the panel with power of 125W; you will need multiple panels per battery. You can use 2 or 3 panels per battery depending on your budget, and you can add a 0.8KVA inverter.
On the other hand, if you choose to use a 200W panel, you can use 1 or 2 panel per battery, depending on your pocket. The recommended inverter in this case is the 1.5KVA inverter.
You will also need a solar charge controller which limits the rate at which electric current is added to or drawn from electric batteries. It prevents overcharging; protect against overvoltage and reduce battery performance or lifespan.
A combination of a solar panel with a power wall inverter and a controller can cost as much as ₦725000 depending on the number of batteries. For instance, a 5KVA Inverter with four 200AH Batteries and eight 250W Solar Panels cost ₦1800000. A solar panel battery can cost up to ₦175,000 per unit.

what type of solar panel is beast for nigeria weather
Polycrystalline panels
I have 1.5kva inverter with 2 batteries. How many panels do I need for effective performance. Currently we are using electricity to charge.
Thanks
Assuming your 2 batteries are rated 200AH each, it will come down to the amount sunshine you get in your area in a day. If up to 5 hours of intense sunlight, I think you will need at least 2 x 300w or 4 x 150w panels, preferably Monocrystaline panels
You need 4 units of 250w monocrystaline solar panel
Please how much can I install a 200W monocrystalline solar panel ?

Hi I need a solar system that can power my 32 inches ledtv and fan and decoder and can as well charge my phone( not so expensive) which one should I go for? . thanks
550k
Could u Pls state ur reason.
I need 100ah battery,
I need 200w panel,
I need 1.5 solar inverter,
And a small matching charger controller of small price.
Plz what is the difference between
2000w inverter and 2kva inverter.
1500w inverter and 1.5kva inverter
Plz I need the reply
Thanks
The difference is that in converting kva to w or kv, you consider the power factor of equipment which is usually stated in the manufacturer’s manual. The power factor, pf is usually between 0.8 and 1.
So 1.5kva is equivalent to 1200w or 1.2kv. That’s taking pf as 0.8. With this as actual power rating of your equipment, you can determine the number of solar panels needed to power your loads.
Here, assuming you want to use 300w panels, then
No of solar panels = power rating/rating of panel
No of solar panels= 1200/300
= 4 nos.
If you want to use 250
= 1200/250
= 4.8
= 5 nos approx is needed.
